ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAITS with BOBBY LANE
ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAITS with BOBBY LANE
Environmental Portraits with Flash
Environmental portraits tell a story, by allowing a glimpse into the world of another individual, with a depth that surpasses the expressive capacity of a studio formal portrait. The subject is revealed by the photographer’s use of design, and composition of the background setting, with special attention to light, posture, expression, composition, and rapport. Each element divulges another aspect of the subject’s personality, requiring careful attention to detail. Direction, quality, and depth of light all combine to match the concept of the portrait, so lighting skills are important. The technical concerns about light, camera angle and lenses, backgrounds, selective focus, and composition can sometimes overshadow the importance of making a connection with another human being. Honoring, respecting, and communicating with your subject are the first steps to making a meaningful, and storytelling photograph. However, it’s imperative to use excellent light to create the mood and capture the essence of the subject.
Bobbi shares her many tips, and multiple experiences in both the common place, and exotic locations. This presentation will help you connect with people, develop a deeper understand of what all humans have in common, and assist you to make photographs that emotionally effect and enlighten the viewer.

The Second Shot
Tuesday, January 26, 2021
6:30 PM 8:30 PM
THE SECOND SHOT by Carolyn Lightcap
Famed wedding photograph Carolyn Lightcap is well known for her candid romantic shots of couples. Her work has been published in both the knot and Stuart Magazines. As a six-time recipient of “The Knots Best of Weddings,” she was recently awarded into the “Knots Hall of a Fame”.
Growing up, Carolyn always knew she wanted to be a photographer, but it wasn’t until a photographer friend asked her to assist at a wedding, she knew this was what she would do for the rest of her life. She soon built the business of her dreams in Palm Beach County, where she resided for 17 years until moving her business to Stuart Florida.
With a background in art and design, Carolyn says she imagines a shot in her mind moments before it actually happens.
Carolyn understands the significance of a couple’s wedding day. The romance, the excitement, and the fun. Carolyn also believes, to truly tell a story with exceptional imagery, you need to ensemble the perfect team. The lighting, the details, and the second shot are all equally important.
Carolyn’s Program will demonstrate how a second photographer allows the primary photographer to perform at their highest possible level while bringing in a different perspective. Second shooters can bring different artistic ideas and interpretations, and capture moments that might otherwise be missed or unnoticed.
Second shooting is also an amazing way to venture into the wedding photography world. It allows you to practice your skills while also networking with local photographers and vendors.
The program will include:
Lens preference as to which lens to use?
Communication with the lead Photographer
How to add variety to the client’s gallery and still aid the lead photographer in anything they need.
How to Keep an eye out for the little things. If the bride’s dressed needs to be fluffed for a photo or the groom’s boutonnière is crooked, and how to avoid those dreadful obstructive backgrounds.
How to photograph the Groom along with his groomsmen and family.
Choosing a different vantage point (for example, if the main photographer is capturing portraits, you could choose a longer lens to photograph their hands, the details on the bride’s dress, the bouquets, etc.
Picking the second angle wisely, noticing body types, lighting on your subject, etc.
Keep in mind that every photographer is looking for something different in their second shooters. Communication is key!
